5 Recovery Tips After A Wisdom Tooth Removal Surgery

Wisdom tooth removal is a very standard and common dental procedure. Most of the time, the dentist only spend at least a day or less to remove a wisdom tooth. But what come after this is the crucial part – the recovery.

A lot of dental patients experienced difficulty in recovery after their wisdom tooth extraction in Dubai. But the key to recovery lies on the patients’ efforts to get better. If you have an upcoming wisdom tooth removal surgery, be sure to remember these recovery tips:

  1. Take a day off or two

Some dental patients think that since wisdom tooth extraction is a basic dental procedure, the way to recovery is easy and that they can go back to their normal routines in a snitch. But you need to keep in mind that your gums went through a strenuous procedure and your body is still experiencing the effects of anesthesia. It would be best to take the rest of the day off and lay in bed for faster recovery.

  1. Avoid strenuous movements

Apart from resting, dental patients who went through a wisdom tooth extraction should avoid strenuous activities like exercising. Big and sudden movements will cause profuse bleeding. Be sure to keep your movement to a minimum. You have to do household chores, it would be best to get someone to do it for you for the meantime. Rest until your physician said so.

  1. Do not poke the affected area

Some patients are quite curious to see the development and progress of their recovery that they tend to check the affected area. However, this practice will just cause even more problems like slow closing of the wound and infection. Try not to poke the affected area and let your dentist check the progress of your recovery.

  1. Use ice for swelling

After any dental procedure, the orthodontist would probably tell their patients to expect pain and swelling. Should that happen, ice the swollen part until the swelling subsides. For the pain, try to ask your dentist in advance to prescribe pain medications so you can manage the pain. But if the pain did not subside after taking the meds, it is best to check it with your dentist.

  1. Consume soft food

This is definitely the best time to get an ice cream! Your dentist would give you a list of food and beverages you can take after the procedure, mostly soft food and meals. Be sure to follow his/her instructions to a letter to avoid complications.
